About: The Jessie Lokrantz Scholarship was developed to encourage and facilitate cultural
exchange between Sweden and the United States (US) through academic pursuits in secondary or
graduate education. The scholarship provides funding for American students studying at
accredited universities in Sweden. The applicant who is awarded the scholarship will receive the
full amount of funding in one installment and will be featured on the American Women’s Club
(AWC) homepage.
Eligibility: Applicants must be American citizens that are attending an accredited Swedish
university in Stockholm, Sweden (e.g., college, university, or graduate school levels). The course
of study must be for at least one academic term (e.g., semester). Applicants who identify as
female are eligible.
Funding amount: 10,000 SEK paid directly to the successful applicant
Application submission window: Applications for the 2025-2026 academic year are
currently being accepted until July 1, 2025. Link to the application: here
Decision date of successful applicant: The successful applicant for the 2025-2026 academic
year will be announced on July 15, 2025.
Obligation of successful applicant: Award recipients will receive a free, one-year
membership to the AWC and are expected to attend at least one AWC event during the course of
the academic term for which the award is granted.

2024 Recipient: Annie Lane
Annie is from St. Louis, Missouri, and she graduated from Monmouth College, IL in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in history and anthropology. For the past 14 years, she has lived and worked in India, South Korea, and Australia, cultivating a love for different cultures, and through these experiences, she discovered an interest in human migration. Currently, she is a master’s student in the Ethnic and Migration Studies program at the University of Linköping. Her master thesis will center around climate (im)mobility of widows in coastal communities in East Africa, particularly Kenya. She hopes that community members can use her thesis to help them obtain additional funding from private and public entities.
